Driving from the UK to Türkiye
Plan your Channel crossing, transit cover and Turkish vehicle insurance before your journey.

Start with the whole itinerary
Compare your Channel crossing with the time you have for the continental drive. Write down each transit country, your Turkish arrival date and the return leg before requesting insurance. Allow overnight stops and a buffer for border queues rather than treating the journey as one uninterrupted drive.
Check what your UK policy actually covers
Ask your current insurer whether Türkiye is included, whether it will provide the required insurance evidence and whether own-damage cover continues abroad. GOV.UK lists Türkiye among destinations where a Green Card may be needed. If your existing policy does not cover Türkiye, request suitable local foreign-plate cover before arrival.
Prepare the vehicle and return journey
Keep the registration document, licence, insurance evidence and ownership or authorisation documents together. Review Turkish customs eligibility separately from your insurance term. Check the roadside package for your vehicle type, recovery limits and assistance territory. Repeat the insurance check for the return route if it differs from your outward journey.
