Prepare your vehicle documents and Turkish insurance enquiry before a journey from Iraq.
Check access for your journey
Confirm the intended crossing, passport requirements and private-vehicle access with the responsible authorities before setting off. Do not use freight opening information as proof of tourist-vehicle access. Keep a flexible schedule and check arrangements again close to departure. This guide does not report live border status.
Separate entry and insurance decisions
Insurance is one part of preparation. Vehicle ownership, residency, authorisation and customs eligibility need their own checks. Keep the registration and passport available, and clarify any mismatch in the owner or vehicle details before requesting a quotation. An insurance purchase does not guarantee permission to enter.
Plan any onward European travel
If Türkiye is a transit country, include every onward destination in your insurance enquiry. A Turkish-issued Green Card for Turkish plates is not a substitute for cover for an Iraqi-registered vehicle. Ask about the exact product, issuer and territory available for your registration, and confirm it before committing to the onward route.
